The end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth saw a number of politicians from the Lot-et-Garonne make their mark at a national level, including one president. Clément Armand Fallières was president between 1906 and 1913. Fallières was almost a local lad being born in Mézin in Lot-et-Garonne. In addition there were five other Lot-et-Garonne politicians who became nationally well known, Pierre-Deluns Montaud born in Allemans-du-Dropt, Étienne Léopold Faye born in Marmande, Georges Leygues born in Villeneuve-sur-Lot, Joseph Chaumié born in Agen and Jean-Baptiste Darlan born in Podensac (Gironde).
