Docteur Oscar Bayssellance was a resident of Eymet. His appeal to us is that we have obtained two postcards, the first depicting a “chambre” and the second, a “salon” of the house in which he lived in Eymet.
He was also a writer and four volumes of an autobiographical nature were donated to the Sainte-Foy-le-Grande archives – see Sud Ouest 23rd December 2013 for more details. One volume related to his military career. He was born 20th April 1865 and died in 1943. He was part of a well known Aquitaine family and his nephew Adrian was mayor of Bordeaux between 1888 and 1892.
His military career is mentioned in the Journal Officiel de la République Française of the 1st September 1886 where the Ministry of War announces that he is admitted to the Military Health Corp.
Later on the same publication of the 2nd September 1910 tells us he was made a Chevalier by the Ministry of Agriculture:
Docteur en médécin à Eymet: reconstitution de vignobles. Vulgarisation de l’emploi d’engrais minéraux; 20 ans de pratique.
It is probable that it is the same Bayssellance that gets mentioned in the Guide de route published by the Touring-club de France in 1937. The address is given as 1 & 3 rue du Tibre in Eymet.
